Jmanga Closing

Jmanga, an online subscription service of 39 Japanese publishers’ works in English that opened in 2010, ended its buying program March 13 and will shut down completely on May 30. Subscribers with remaining points will be refunded via Amazon gift certificate. Subscribers will not be able to download the content to which they purchased access.

Whether this will be good news for the remaining online subscription services, who might be able to pick up Jmanga’s customers, or bad news if this closing indicates that no one wants to read content exclusively online, remains to be seen. But it’s always a shame when another manga publisher goes under, especially one that carries Cherry Blossom’s beloved BL content.

If you have any inside info as to what happened with Jmanga, we’d love to hear about it. Speculation is welcome as well. ^_^
